A new sailing event, the Catfish 14 Regatta, has joined Grenada’s calendar of competitive racing, thanks to an exciting joint initiative between Grenada Yacht Club, Gouyave Sailing School and Catfish Inc., a Gouyave-based company building fiberglass dinghies and boats.
The event has been created to showcase the new fleet of Catfish 14 dinghies that have been built in Gouyave and was staged over two days, combining long ‘Point to Point’ races between Gouyave and St. George’s, and shorter, more tactical races around a course set at the mouth of The Lagoon, by Grenada Yacht Club.
The first event saw a fleet of 8 boats sailed by 16 young crew members from Gouyave Sailng School and Grenada Yacht Club. Conditions were mixed and challenging and put both boats and crew through their paces, showing the potential of this new design of dinghy and the skills of the young sailors.
As usual, Budget Marine Grenada was one of the sponsors for this youth sailing event. After this first success, the organizers are keen to stage the Catfish 14 Regatta regularly, making it a firm date to look out for on Grenada’s calendar of sailing events.
