After a very succesful Sailing Regatta and Triathlon held for the first time last year, Budget marine Bonaire stepped up its game this year by adding a Santa Hat Walk and a 5k run.
The Santa Hat walk was led by a pickup truck blasting Christmas and dance energy songs and included a lot of cruisers who had a blast. Dressing up paid off as prizes were given for best costume and energy.
The runners departed just in front of the truck for a speedy 5k tour.
With the added events the sailing regatta was extended to one and a half days of racing with more types of boats joining in the fun. Next to the Windsurfing, Optimist and Sunfish races from the club, the Boto Piskado, the newly restored local fishing boats joined in the action as well as the micro boats. These last boats sail without remote controls… set your rudder, set your sails and release and hope you reach to the rope at the finish!
The triathlon had great participation this year in two categories, a sprint and a mini sprint distance with the mini being a 350m swim, 10k bike and 2.5krun and the sprint double the distance.
To add to the festivities a sports festival was also organized on shore with great performances from a dance group, field hockey on the street, games organized by the swim team and sail club, fundraising events and ofcourse the unmissable Live music, BBQ and bar which made this Caribbean event complete.
A great time was had by all!
