Budget Marine supports 2nd National Championship Regatta hosted by Trinidad & Tobago Powerboat Association

After the past difficult year, during which most watersport and other social events were cancelled due to Covid-19, including Trinidad’s famous carnival, it was a pleasure to see 12 boats throttle up and take to the water to battle it out.

Jointly sponsored by BUDGET MARINE TRINIDAD and MOBIL LUBRICANTS, this 2nd National Championship Regattawas part of the series that celebrates national powerboat champions and also leads up to the Great Race from Trinidad to Tobago that is carded to take place on 21 August 2021.

The races on 16 March 2021 started at Cumana Bay and headed west towards the Tembladora Bauxite Terminal in Carenage, before turning and return to the starting point. With protocols in place there were no crowds of spectators, but some great footage was taken of the action out in the Gulf and shared on social media.

Mr Solo returned to action in the 130 mph Class, winning all four races. Extreme Measures managed to take top honours in the 70 mph Class, winning three out of four races, and Heatwave, with Jason Costa and Timothy Skinner, took the chequered flag in the 80 mph Class. These two are younger generation members of families whose enthusiasm for powerboat racing in Trinidad has been legendary, starting in the sixties. Budget Marine Trinidad was proud and pleased to contribute to this event and assist with the revival of powerboat racing competition at this time.
